Binder Recovery Apparatus
Rotary evaporator for binder recovery is used for the recovery of soluble bitumen from bituminous pavement materials in a form suitable for further testing.
During operation, the solution of solvent and asphalt (bitumen) from a prior extraction is distilled by partially immersing the rotating distillation flask of the rotary evaporator apparatus, in a heating oil bath while the solution is subjected to high vacuum with fine regulation of pressure (up to ±0.1 kPa) according to EN 12697-3 or to partial vacuum and flow of nitrogen gas according to ASTM D5404 and AASHTO TP2.
The recovered asphalt (bitumen) can then be subjected to further testing as required.

Binder recovery apparatus by vacuum is used to remove the solvent from the binder/solvent solution in order to determine directly the total content binder in the aggregate/binder mixtures.

The apparatus consists of a power operated vacuum pump, fit with vacuum regulator, producing a vacuum down to 200 mbar, a thermostatically controlled water bath, and two flat-bottomed flasks 250 ml capacity with rubber bungs and connections.
All necessary fittings and connections complete the set.
Binder recovery apparatus by Abson method is used for recovering the asphalt (bitumen) from a solution of a previous extraction.
The asphalt is recovered with properties substantially the same as those it possessed in the bituminous mixture and in quantities sufficient for further testing.
