Controls Impact Soil Tester

Controls Impact Soil Tester

Point
The Controls Impact Soil Tester

This instrument is similar to the well known Clegg soil tester.

The Controls tester costs less than the original Cleggs.
This impact tester was developed by Controls UK for the British market; it is used extensively by local bodies there to monitor compaction of roading and backfilled trenches. It is now widely used in New Zealand also.

OPERATION

The instrument is easy to use, with the readings provided by the attached microprocessor.
The readings are known as 'Real Impact Values' – they are like the 'Clegg Impact Value' on the original Clegg hammers. The makers report excellent correlation with CBR values.
The operator simply drops the weight five times: the reading from the fourth drop is the Real Impact Value.

A rubber check-ring is supplied for checking  the calibration of the hammer.
Before sending units to our customers we test the hammers and the check-rings.

Aluminium road case

We supply an operating manual and a strong custom-made aluminium road case for storage and transport.

We are committed to providing excellent service and support for these hammers and we know them well.
A trade-in arrangement on old Cleggs is possible – depending of course on age and condition.
These testers are almost always in stock, available for demonstration and hire.

CBR Evaluation

By the usual rule, the correspondence with CBR is found by squaring the reading from the tester and multiplying by 0.07. So for example a reading of 50 works out to 50 x 50 x 0.07 = CBR 175.
